In May 2024, Private Swimming Academy (PSA) had the honor of collaborating on the “Swim With Your Meaning” (SWYM) initiative, founded by British-Ghanaian Olympian Alice Dearing. This groundbreaking program aimed to promote swimming as an essential life skill and inspire a new generation of swimmers in Ghana.
Partnership with Achimota Senior High School
The inaugural phase of SWYM was launched in partnership with the prestigious Achimota Senior High School in Accra. Recognizing the school’s rich history and commitment to excellence, it served as the ideal setting to introduce this transformative program.
Our Role in the Initiative
PSS was privileged to be one of the two selected instructors for this initiative, alongside Victor Kwejo Shadrach from Swimtech Ghana. Our responsibilities included:
Training Programs: Conducting comprehensive 10-week swimming courses for selected students, focusing on developing technical skills, endurance, and water safety.
Personalized Instruction: Offering tailored coaching to cater to individual needs, ensuring each participant gained confidence and proficiency in the water.
Community Engagement: Collaborating with school officials and parents to foster a supportive environment that emphasizes the importance of swimming as a lifelong skill.
Impact and Future Aspirations
Through this collaboration, we witnessed remarkable progress in the participants, many of whom had little to no prior swimming experience. The success of the program has reinforced our commitment to:
Expanding Access: Working towards making swimming accessible to more schools and communities across Ghana.
Promoting Water Safety: Advocating for swimming education as a crucial component of overall safety and well-being.
Fostering Talent: Identifying and nurturing potential talent for competitive swimming on national and international stages.
